MCGSA now operates 6 leagues based on age groups
(based on December 31, 2007 age)
T Ball - Ages 6U: Instructional league designed to teach softball fundamentals. Girls hit off a Tee. Uses an 11 inch "softie" softball.
8U: Instructional league designed to teach softball fundamentals. Girls are pitched to by their coach. Uses an 11 inch "softie" softball.
10U: Beginning of competitive leagues. Girls fast pitch to their competition. First league where stealing is allowed. Uses a standard 11 inch softball.
12U: Competitive league with girls pitching to their competition. Uses a 12 inch standard softball.
14U/16U Inter Park League: The 14U and 16U recreational leagues have been combined into one league. Teams will play games against OCEE Park in Alpharetta and Morgan Falls Park in Sandy Springs, as well as other MCGSA recreational teams.
Within each league, teams are formed, attempting to balance skill levels throughout. The emphasis of the intramural program is on building skills while having fun. The season ends with an intra-league tournament, culminating in the awarding of trophies for tournament winners as well as for teams who had strong seasons.
All Stars
All Star teams are formed at each level at the end of the intramural season. Post-season All Star play gives girls who have a higher level of interest and skill an opportunity to play with other high-level players and test themselves against teams from other parks in the Metro area.
The Travel Team Program
There is no limit to how far our young women athletes can go. MCGSA sponsors competitive "A" and "B" level travel teams for our top players. This program offers more intensive instruction and the highest level of competitive play throughout Georgia, and the Southeast. Murphey Candler travel teams have qualified and played at both the ASA and NSA Nationals.
