10U

10U

The 10U softball league is the first league that the players themselves will pitch and learn to steal the bases.  Progressing from the 8U coach pitch league to the 10U 'kid pitch'  league is a natural and exciting step for our players.  Though many girls have been playing for a number of seasons at this point, the 10U recreational league is designed to accommodate both new and experienced players.  We strive to continue teaching the fundamentals of catching, throwing, and batting, and to begin teaching the basics of pitching and stealing. Pitching is done from 35 feet.

We have found that most new players in this league will quickly and efficiently catch on (no pun intended) to the fundamental skills.  Parent participation in this category is a must—the more practice the girls have, the better they will become.

Those girls that are interested in pitching are strongly recommended to take pitching instruction (either taking private instruction or taking advantage of pitching clinics that MCGSA offers) - there is very little time for pitching instruction during practices.  Learning the proper form for pitching is a must and it’s learned over many repetitions and practices.  The pitchers will practice the new skills on the opposing team batters.  They can strike the batters out, but will not walk the batters.  After the 4th ball, a coach will come in to finish the count by taking up the strike count and pitching to the batter themselves.  This helps "rescue” the pitcher as well as helping the batter.

This league is a lot of fun for the girls as they will make new friends, learn the game, play competitively, and hone the skills that will enable them to play at higher skill levels. 10U teams use a regulation 11 inch softball.

  • WHO: 10U is for 9 & 10 year old girls
