Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Murphey Candler Park located?

The park is located inside the top end of I-285 between Ashford Dunwoody Road and Chamblee Dunwoody Road.  The address is 1551 W Nancy Creek Dr NE, Atlanta, GA  30341.  The softball fields are across the street from the lake.

When is the Spring season?  When is the Fall season?

The Spring season starts in February and finishes before Memorial Day.  The Fall season starts in early August and finishes by the end of October.

When will registration open?

Registration for the Spring season will open in November and close at the end of January. Registration for the Fall season will open in June and close at the end of July.

What equipment is needed to play fastpitch softball?

A fielding glove, a batting helmet (with  facemask), a softball bat with the 2000 or 2004 ASA certification mark (and not on the ASA non-approved bat list), cleats, and softball pants are needed.  Fielding masks are required at certain levels of play.  Batting gloves are optional.  Many players use a bat bag to carry all of their gear.  The association will provide softballs and catcher equipment for each team as well as a team jersey and socks for each player.  For tips on how to buy the right size softball bat, click here.

Does MCGSA honor buddy requests?

On a limited basis.  Buddy requests can lead to unbalanced teams and scheduling problems.  And we believe that playing softball is a great way to make new friends.  With that in mind, players that are new to MCGSA may request to be on one other player's team.  Siblings in the same age group will be placed on the same team unless otherwise requested by their parents.

Can my daughter play "up" or "down" a league?

League age in the Spring is determined by the player's age as of January 1st.  To play "down" in an age group requires the approval of the BoD's Executive Committee.  To play "up" in an age group requires the player to be evaluated in the top two rounds of that age group and/or the approval of the BoD's Executive Committee.  In the Fall, players typically play in the age group that they will play in during the upcoming Spring (as determined by the player's age as of January 1st).

What is MCGSA's refund policy?

All sales are final after teams are formed.  No refunds or partial refunds are available after this point.  If you would like to inquire about a refund before teams are formed, please contact your League Director or murphey.candler@gmail.com
